The tale of Deacon Ferrous
In the rolling fields of the Eifnvale, just beyond the Academy, stands Sycamore Rise, a humble croft surrounded by a circle of trees. This the heart of my community, where the Natural Order of Ecovera calls home.
I am Deacon Ferrous, the most senior of our enclave. We are Clanks, mechanical beings powered by magic soulstones, created for the purpose of recycling metal. Each of us specializes in a specific metal, offering our unique skills to support the citizens of Wren. I work with iron and steel, creating functional and symbolic metalwork for our people.
At the center of our community is the Grand Arbiter, a role dedicated to upholding the values of Ecovera. They direct us, resolve conflicts, and ensures our actions align with the natural balance we cherish. The Arbiter’s role, however, is not permanent. Every few years, a new Arbiter is chosen, and when the time comes, the outgoing Arbiter is respectfully dismantled, and their parts are used to craft a new Deacon, continuing the cycle of renewal and resourcefulness that defines our community.
Our lineage stretches back to an organic being we call The Progenitor, who created the first of our kind long ago. Though little remains known about their identity or purpose, the legacy they left behind is one of perpetual renewal. This cycle, which we follow with each passing Arbiter, is the foundation of our existence and the key to maintaining harmony within our community.
As the most senior Deacon, I am preparing for the day I will take on the role of Grand Arbiter. This journey will lead me far beyond Sycamore Rise, testing my resilience, wisdom, and understanding of Ecovera’s values. While my path may not involve epic battles or grand prophecies, it will challenge my dedication to our principles.
Each day, I work with my fellow Vran to nurture the balance of our ecosystem, guided by Ecovera’s teachings—respecting nature, uplifting our community, and living in harmony with Wren’s natural cycles. As the final test of my readiness approaches, I feel both anticipation and resolve, knowing the weight of leadership shall soon pass to me.
